This diagram gives a very nice overview of the flow of blood through the body.

Here are some things you need to know to make sense of the picture:

• The color blue represents blood that is carrying CO2 from the body's cells to the lungs.
• The color red represents blood that is carrying O2 from the lungs to the body's cells.
• In both cases, it is the action of the heart that provides the power for the transport.
